Commercially available air quality monitors have become an increasingly accessible way to gather data on key areas of your community, such as homes, high streets, and schools. However, selecting the right monitor can be a challenge for people new to air quality monitoring as each comes with different features and functions at different price points.

In this workshop, David Smith, a clean air advocate who co-wrote the Community Air Quality Monitoring Guide with us, will give a brief overview of key factors to consider when buying an air quality monitor and make some suggestions based on the situations that attendees share.

Air quality monitoring data collected from key points in your community, such as homes, high streets, and schools can add to how you tell the story of air pollution’s health and environmental impacts. In addition to supporting your advocacy, there is an opportunity to support future campaigns and how other communities address pollution concerns.

In this workshop, David Smith will talk to attendees about their strategy around using monitoring data for their advocacy. The latter part of the workshop will give space for attendees to imagine what a communal data strategy that spans across communities and time looks like and what part they would like to play in this type of strategy.
